You might remember the layout, look, and feel
of the very first websites that appears on
the internet in the early 90s, this was when we
first actually started creating websites.
At the time a website looked as though it was the epitome of technical
design and functionality but in more recent years they have evolved to become a far more complex affair.
The once static or brochure website would contain all of the information that a visitor might need, including contact details, a description of products or services, and perhaps a few images of the company or the people that worked there.
The content would stay relatively static as the site had been built to fulfil a
purpose and that purpose had been met – to give people the information
that they needed to know via the internet. These early websites we commonly
known as brochure websites, as they presented a static digital brochure of the respective business online.
A static website contained pages that were hard coded in HTML; they were then manually uploaded to a web server so that they could be accessible on the Internet. In order to make even minor changes they had to be downloaded, modified and then uploaded again, this involved technical knowledge of HTML and also familiarity with file transfer etc. This meant hiring a programmers and paying them by the hour to update the web pages individually, this was a time consuming and costly practice.
Next Generation dynamic Websites
As the web has became more popular and the demand for more content and more frequent updates has because necessary a new generation of website has appeared, this new generation employ a revolutionary new process of simple separation, they simply separated the HTML coding from the content meaning there was no more need for users to know complex HTML in order to update website content.
How do these websites work?
Users simply access a web based dashboard which is similar to using a standard windows word processing application, changes are made instantly, no need for any knowledge of HTML, just edit the content in real-time via the editor and save, the changes appear immediately on the website.
